Shri T.N. Chaturvedi’s brilliant and multi-facet
career as a civil servant, parliamentarian and as an intellectual
has spanned for nearly six decades. He began his career
as a civil servant by joining the Indian Administrative
Service in 1950 and held such crucial assignments as Chief
Secretary, Delhi, Chief Commissioner, Union Territory
of Chandigarh and later as Secretary to Government of
India in the Ministry of Education and Culture, Sports,
Home Affairs etc. He resigned from the IAS in 1984, was
appointed soon after to the constitutional post of Comptroller
and Auditor General of India. Subsequently, Shri Chaturvedi
was elected to Rajya Sabha in 1992 and again in 1998.
He resigned from Rajya Sabha to take over as Governor
of Karnataka. He has been associated for long with a number
of educational, cultural, literary, spiritual, social
and charitable institutions in different capacities. He
was elected as a member of the Executive Board of UNESCO
in 2000. He has been Fellow (1959-60) of the Economics
Development Institute of the World Bank. Shri Chaturvedi
was conferred with an honorary Doctorate by Lal Bahadur
Shastri Sanskrit Vidyapeeth, New Delhi for his contribution
to the public affairs. He has authored two books and also
has edited many more. He was awarded Padma Vibhushan by
the President of India for his contribution to public
affairs.
