A distinguished alumnus of Delhi School of Economics, she has been actively associated with D.A.V. She is the daughter of Late Shri G.L. Datta former President of DAV College Managing Committee. She joined the DAV Organization in 1977 as the founder Principal of DAV Nursery and Public School, Chandigarh. Subsequently, she served the organization in various other capacities too, such as Director, Institute of Correspondence Education (which she also founded) and Director, Publication. Her last assignment in the DAV Organization was Director, Public Schools and Co-ordinator. The process of 'Performance Analysis' at the National level of all the DAV Schools affiliated to CBSE Board initiated by her has led to remarkable qualitative improvement of academic standards of schools. She has also authored textbooks for children
As a social worker she has made significant contribution in the functioning of Balwadis, Nutrition Programmes and Play Centres for children. She has a keen interest in theatre.
She has visited Russia, Germany, U.S.A., U.K., Canada and other countries.
